Unreleased ARPG - Character Development Part 2

While fulfilling my duties as Director of Art for Bigpoint I had the opportunity to pitch in on the visual development for a mobile Action RPG we were developing.

This covers the second half of exploration that took us up to cancelation. I wish we could've gone further, but understandable business reasons outside of the team's control determined its fate. I've left out lots of in-between steps in favor of presenting development more cleanly.

I had a ton of fun on this project.

The human male and female from the end of part one (plus the orc who sort of survived a majority of the exploration) was the basis for our body type. This shows initial "can we do dwarves and ogres and such?" exploration.

We finally ruled out a character creator in favor of creating actual characters. I felt confident enough in the look to start some character exploration so we could really get a feel for where this could go and to inspire game design. This was the first.

The generic guy from which all other characters will seem more interesting. I always intended to get back to this guy and spice him up.

We wanted to avoid stereotypes and play up archetypes, but find times to really own something. This was us saying "Can we have something like a dwarf without making a dwarf?"

I wanted to try this "Holy Orc" idea where he's outcast by standard orc clans and kinda feared by his paladin comrades.
